2004 Levendi Napa Valley Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Levendi’s 2004 Napa Valley Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect, “special occasion” wine. It sits on the shelf for seventy-five bucks but what is inside are plenty of reasons that make it worth every penny. This wine shows that it is possible to bring subtly to Napa Valley. The bottle itself is quite heavy and thick allowing hardly any light through indicating that this family owned winery encourages us to age it. Although this might be true, believe me it is drinking beautifully now.

On the nose one gets a waft of subtle sweet raspberry and chocolate with just a whiff of vanilla. The tannin structure of this wine is so integrated you almost miss it for all the flavors running around on the mouth feel. The palate is layered with dark cherry fruit and sweet tannins with a silky core. It is a full-bodied wine that is comfortable and approachable. It is simultaneously subtle and powerful with a nice easy weight. I personally love this wine. Sometimes I will just look over at it on the shelf and let out a brief infatuated sigh (weird, I know but, hey I am a wine geek). The Levendi is also a safe gift wine. Even though it is a Napa cab it is not a huge powerhouse of a wine prohibiting the faint of heart from enjoying a glass or four. It shows subtlety and grace, balance and structure, finesse and power. And even if someone is very against Napa wine or California wines in general this could be one that they continue to enjoy until the next great Cali bottle comes into their life.

Thank you so much for the comment. It is truly a beautiful wine. If it is 10am where you are it is twelve o’clock some where!
